Cinco de Mayo is coming up on May 5th to celebrate the victory of the Mexican army over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. In Mexico, they like to have festivals and parades with costumes, music and dancing. General Ignacio Zaragoza led the Mexican Army to victory over the French, even though the French were better armed and nearly three times as large. Another reason this was a great Victory was because Emperor Napoleon III had sent these French troops to Mexico to conquer the country. On May 5, 1862 the heart, pride, tactics and determination of the Mexican Army did not allow this to happen. |
